More about the Stoughton Community

Stoughton City Hall

The community of Stoughton has its own unique identity, steeped in Norwegian culture and history. The city is host to its popular “Syttende Mai” Celebration, an annual ritual marking Norway’s independence. The three day event is a celebration of Norwegian culture that includes arts and crafts, food, music, dancing, and an annual run which attracts hundreds of participants from around Wisconsin.

The Stoughton Opera House and the Stoughton Historical Society connect residents with local history. The city hosts the annual Coffee Break Festival and Victorian Holiday Weekend, two other events which make life in Stoughton unique.

Parks and outdoor recreational opportunities are plentiful in the Stoughton area. The city features 17 community parks including LaFollette County Park, the Yahara River, and Lake Kegonsa State Park. Local golf courses include the Stoughton Country Club, Coachman’s Golf Resort, and the Creekview par three course.

Stoughton offers five public schools in total. Kegonsa, Fox Prairie, and Sandhill elementary serve the grade school levels, while River Bluff Middle School and Stoughton Senior High School provide education to the older levels.

Choose from the selection of Real Estate in Stoughton

Walking the historic neighborhoods offers a great way to learn about the amazing variety of real estate in Stoughton. A stroll through the East Side, Northwest Side, Southwest Side, Depot Hill, and Main Street historic districts is like a walk through time, harkening back to the days when architectural character, quality, and craftsmanship were the norm.

Stoughton offers dozens of historic buildings and landmark homes, with classic architecture in Victorian, Arts and Crafts bungalow, Queen Ann Style, Italianate, and American Foursquare themes. If you prefer architectural details such as French and pocket doors, 10 foot ceilings, over-sized porches, inlaid woodwork, beveled glass, china hutches, an old style butler’s pantry, or thick oak hardwood trim and flooring, the houses in the city’s center are a must-see. Another benefit of Stoughton’s architecture is the price.  Homes in the historic districts are highly affordable, offering prospective buyers a strong value proposition.

Stoughton also features a wide selection of more modern real estate, with many newer construction homes built in the 1990s and early 2000s. In addition to other neighborhoods, the Hill Olson, Hillcrest, Kegonsa Ridge, Norse View Heights, and Virgin Lake subdivisions offer a good selection of affordable homes with more modern designs. Prices in these neighborhoods start at around $200,000.

Condos are plentiful in Stoughton, too. The Castle, Cedarbrook, Kensington Square, McComb Place, and South School condominiums are all highly affordable, with most units selling for below $150,000.

If you prefer lake and waterfront homes, the areas around Stoughton should be high on your list. The Yahara River and Lake Kegonsa offer some beautiful backdrops for many home owners in the area.
