More about Dudgeon Monroe, Madison, WI

The homes in Dudgeon-Monroe were "new urbanism", "smart design", and "urban density" long before these terms became a part of our common vocabulary. The houses in the area are built on modestly-sized lots along the Monroe Street corridor, where dozens of stores, boutiques, art galleries, coffee shops and restaurants are only a short walk or bike ride from home. Some of Madison's most popular businesses are located along Monroe Street, including Trader Joe's, Barriques Wine Cave, Mickie's Dairy Bar, and Michael's Frozen Custard, to name a few. Monroe Street is even home to a pharmacy and a local branch of the public library.

Neighborhood Parks and Recreation

Dudgeon-Monroe offers convenient access to some of Madison's most popular outdoor destinations. In this near west side community, a trip to the lake, along with a scoop of Michael's Frozen Custard makes for a beautiful day in the neighborhood. Wingra Park offers gorgeous views of Lake Wingra, as well as canoe and kayak rentals, a playground, soccer field and basketball court. Walk south from Wingra Park and you'll arrive at Wingra Springs Park (aka "The Duck Pond"). From here, a short walk up the hill on Glenway Street brings you to Glenwood Children's Park and the Glenway Golf Course.

If you're a biking enthusiast, this neighborhood offers you the perfect location. Ride your bike around the Lake Wingra loop, which includes a run through the scenic University of Wisconsin Arboretum. Or hop on the Southwest Commuter Bike Path, which connects you to the University of Wisconsin campus and the larger Badger State and Capital City bike trail systems.

Dudgeon-Monroe properties are zoned to the Madison West High school attendance area. Local elementary schools include Franklin/Randall and Thoreau. The middle school options include either Cherokee Heights or Hamilton.

A number of private school options are available in the area as well. Private elementary schools include Blessed Sacrament, Wingra School, and Edgewood Grade School. Edgewood also offers education at the high school and college levels.

Dudgeon-Monroe Neighborhood Association (DMNA)

The local neighborhood association is one of the most active neighborhood groups in Madison, and another reason why this part of Madison is so popular. Many volunteers show their allegiance to the neighborhood by tending to the local parks and green spaces. The association actively promotes the history of the neighborhood and the relevance of its many architecturally significant homes.
