This community of 9,000 people is greatly influenced by the Yahara River and the natural areas that surround the village. The northern stretch of the Yahara offers some excellent opportunities for canoeing and kayaking. DeForest also offers its residents 87 acres of community and neighborhood parks, as well as over 300 acres of protected conservancy space. The Yahara River Trail System is another outdoor destination to be completed soon. When completed, the system will offer 18 miles of trail winding through the natural areas of the Village, as well as a connection to the Dane County and city of Madison trail systems. With miles of river and trails, acres of green space open for exploration, and numerous athletic fields, playgrounds, and picnic areas – there is no shortage of outdoor opportunities in DeForest. The Village even offers a “splash pad” for the little ones!
Annual Events in DeForest
DeForest hosts a number of annual events that bring together the residents of the Village. Community events include the Yahara Riverfest, the annual bike rodeo and hot dog walk, a Memorial Day Ceremony, and the Dragon Art Fair.
The DeForest Area School District serves the residents of DeForest and Windsor. The district also serves students in the small communities of Morrisonville, Vienna, Burke, Leeds, Bristol, and Hampden – in addition to a small section of Madison. In total the district offers 4 elementary schools, a middle school, and a High School.
Choosing DeForest Real Estate
The Village of DeForest features a number of established neighborhoods with very affordable real estate. These include the Acker Park, Anderson, Liberty Land, Pleasant Hills, Thunderbird Estates, and Tower Hill Meadows subdivisions. Most homes in these neighborhoods are available for under $200,000. DeForest also features neighborhoods with newer construction homes at slightly higher price points. In the Eaglewatch and Hanks Hollow subdivisions, the homes start at about $200,000. In Sunnybrook, the homes start at about $225,000, while the prices start at about $250,000 in Heritage Gardens. The homes and condos in Conservancy Place – a Parade of Homes neighborhood – feature new construction built along a 3.5 mile stretch of the Yahara River and in harmony with acres of surrounding natural space. Within Conservancy Place, most homes are available for $300,000 and higher. Most Conservancy Place condos are available for $250,000 and up.
